Expanding Operail - Mid-Week Night Engineering Work
Aim: Introduce students to some of the issues surrounding planned engineering work. In the context of this particular network the changes are to facilitate SIMBIDS.
Method: An additional TIPLOC (Hopper-in-Ryedale) will be required between Postledon and Watgrove. Students will be told that the line has recently been re-signalled and SIMBIDS has been provided. The nature of the service is such that although the section is about 7 mins journey time; the current train service cannot be maintained.
Materials: A complete timetable covering about two and a half hours. Spot Bids from Fastline and Connect-U.
Learning Points: The Spot Bids will not quite work and will require at least one train to be flexed by 5 minutes. That one train operator is happy to back-time so trains have to start earlier whilst another operator wishes to start on time and arrive later. Depending on where it goes into the programme it might generate some discussion re Box Time and Schedule 8 Delays.
